Our Mission
Our mission is to serve those who have served our country. We offer low-cost group acupuncture treatments for US veterans, their families and 9/11 workers to aid in the treatment of post traumatic stress, depression, anxiety and pain.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a 5,000-year old Oriental healing art that is used by 20% of the world’s population and is steadily gaining acceptance in Western culture. It aids in the restoration and maintenance of health by nourishing the life force in the body, Qi (pronounced chee), and promotes healing by increasing the blood flow to different organs and tissues.
During treatment, specific body areas are stimulated with fine needles to strengthen and balance energy flow and create a specific physical or emotional benefit. In addition to finding relief from specific symptoms, patients usually experience a greater sense of well-being and vitality. Acupuncture needles are sterile, safe and disposed of after use, and treatments are virtually painless.
Acupuncture, which is proven to be safe and has very few side effects, has been successfully used to treat stress, pain, depression and anxiety. The World Health Organization recognizes over forty illnesses effectively treated with acupuncture. Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC is currently conducting a clinical trial to establish the effectiveness of acupuncture as a treatment for PTSD among military personnel.
A licensed acupuncturist must complete a 3-year Master's-level training program and pass a national certification examination to practice in New York state. Some states consider Acupuncturists primary healthcare providers.
Our Veterans
According to Veterans and Families Homecoming Support Network Homecoming Preparedness Guide, “1 in 3 US Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are showing symptoms of combat related stress. Even though the VA has seen a tenfold increase in PTSD cases over the last year, nearly two-thirds of veterans who show symptoms don’t seek treatment.” While acupuncture treatment alone may not be all the care needed, it can help, and make a real difference in the healing process for those who have been to war.
